Ah, summer. The season of sunshine, ice creams, and... sweating buckets during gymnastics practice. As the temperatures rise, it's crucial to keep our young gymnasts safe and comfortable.
Here at Wickers Gymnastics Club, we've compiled a list of top tips to help you stay cool, hydrated, and ready to tumble. Let’s get summer-ready for your gymnastics lessons!
Stay Hydrated
First things first, water is your best friend. Ensure gymnasts bring plenty of water to each session. Dehydration can sneak up quickly, especially when they're flipping and cartwheeling in the heat.
Bring a Water Bottle: A reusable water bottle that can hold enough water to last through the entire session.
Dress for Success
Wearing the right clothes can make a big difference in keeping cool and comfortable.
Lightweight, Breathable Clothing: Choose materials like cotton or moisture-wicking fabrics to keep sweat at bay after your lesson.
Proper Footwear: Flip-flops or sandals for wearing home, making it easier for feet to breathe after a workout.
Pack a Change of Clothes: Bring a T-shirt, shorts, and suitable footwear to wear home.
Healthy Snacks
Nutrition plays a big part in performance and recovery.
Healthy, Nut-Free Snacks: For squad members, pack snacks that provide energy without being too heavy. Think along the lines of fruits, granola bars, or yoghurt.
Extra Gear
Make sure you’re prepared for every scenario with a well-packed bag.
Gym Bag: A sturdy bag to carry all essentials, including water bottles, snacks, and spare clothes.
Sunscreen: For when you're headed back into the sunshine after your lesson.
Keep It Cool
When things heat up, sometimes it's best to bring the temperature down.
Cool Down Breaks: We'll be incorporating short breaks where gymnasts can rest and rehydrate
Additional Tips
From the experts and our own experiences, here are a few more handy hints if you're practicing at home:
Buddy System: Encourage gymnasts to pair up and keep an eye on each other for signs of overheating or dehydration.
Stay Indoors: When it’s scorching outside, try to keep sessions indoors in a well-ventilated area.
Hydrate Before and After: Make sure gymnasts drink water before and after practice to stay hydrated.
Summer gymnastics can be a blast, but it’s important to stay safe and cool. By following these top tips, you can ensure your child stays hydrated, comfortable, and ready to tackle their gymnastics lessons with energy and enthusiasm. Pack that water bottle, dress them in breathable clothes, and keep an eye on their well-being. Let’s make this summer a safe and fun one at Wickers Gymnastics Club!
