Is It Too Late to Learn Gymnastics as an Adult? Spoiler Alert: Absolutely Not

Let’s be honest—we’ve all watched a gymnast flip, twist, and land with the grace of a cat on caffeine and thought, “I could probably do that… if I had started 20 years ago.” But here’s the thing: it’s never too late to start gymnastics, and at Wickers Gymnastics Club, we’re here to prove it.

Whether you’re rekindling a love for the sport, looking to add a party trick to your repertoire, or simply want a workout that’s more interesting than staring at a treadmill, our adult gymnastics sessions are the perfect fit for you.

Why Start Gymnastics as an Adult?

Let’s ditch the excuses. You don’t need to be an Olympian or even remotely coordinated to join. Gymnastics offers a fun way to build strength, improve flexibility, and work on that core you’ve been promising to strengthen since 2010. Plus, it’s way more entertaining than yoga when you’re dangling from a set of rings.

Still need convincing? Here’s what gymnastics can do for you:

  • Reclaim Your Inner Child: Because somersaulting is way more fun than it sounds.

  • Learn Cool Tricks: Who doesn’t want to casually pull off a handstand at a party?

  • Meet Like-Minded Adults: Gymnastics is a community, and Wickers is the friendliest one around.

  • Get a Full-Body Workout: Forget leg day; here, it’s all-leg-and-arm-and-core day.

What to Expect in Wickers’ Adult Classes

We run sessions that cater to all abilities, so whether you’re attempting a cartwheel for the first time or brushing up on your back handsprings, you’ll feel right at home. And yes, it’s pay-as-you-go, because commitment issues are so 2005.

Wednesdays with Spencer

  • Time: 8:15 pm – 9:45 pm

  • Format: Open session—you choose your own adventure (gymnastics-related, of course). Spencer, our British Gymnastics Level 2 (or above) coach, is on hand to help with any specific skills or setups you’d like to try.

  • Cost: £10 (cash payments only).

  • Booking: Email Spencer to check availability: spenceradultgym@gmail.com.

Thursdays with Richard

  • Time: 10:00 am – 11:30 am

  • Format: Structured to start (group warm-ups and basics) before transitioning to self-guided activities. The number of participants is capped at 12, so there’s always plenty of space to train safely.

  • Cost: £10 (cash, PayPal, or Pay Mobile).

  • Booking: Complete the registration form here.

FAQs (AKA Things You’re Too Embarrassed to Ask)

  • Do I Need Experience? Absolutely not. Our sessions welcome complete beginners, rusty gymnasts, and anyone in between.

  • Will I Be the Oldest There? Highly unlikely. Gymnastics is for everyone, and our participants range from 18 to “seasoned pros” (aka those who remember the 80s firsthand).

  • What Should I Wear? Something comfortable that you can move in—leggings, t-shirts, or gym shorts work perfectly. No shoes needed; we prefer socks or bare feet.

  • Do I Need to Be a Member? Yes, you’ll need to join British Gymnastics (BG). Membership runs from 1 October to 30 September and is essential for insurance purposes.

Why Wickers?

At Wickers Gymnastics Club, we’re not just about backflips and beams. We’re about building confidence, having a laugh, and proving that it’s never too late to learn something new. Our community of adult gymnasts is as supportive as it is diverse, with everyone cheering each other on—whether it’s for mastering a cartwheel or just turning up after a long day.

So, ditch the doubt, grab some comfy clothes, and join us. You might surprise yourself with what you can achieve—or at least have a great story to tell at the pub.

Ready to Start?

Email Spencer (spenceradultgym@gmail.com) for the Wednesday session or fill out the registration form for Thursdays. We’ll see you soon on the mat—just leave your excuses at the door.
