As parents, we’re always on the lookout for activities that keep our kids active, entertained, and away from a screen (even if it’s just for an hour). If you’re wondering whether gymnastics is the right choice for your school-aged child, let us save you the suspense: it is. At Wickers Gymnastics Club, we’ve designed our school-age classes to be the perfect blend of fun, fitness, and learning.
Here’s everything you need to know about our sessions and why they might just become the highlight of your child’s week.
What Happens in a School-Age Gymnastics Class?
Our classes are designed for children aged 4 years and up and run for an action-packed hour. Here’s a typical session breakdown:
Warm-Up Fun Every class starts with a warm-up to get the blood pumping and the muscles ready to move. Think stretches, light cardio, and plenty of giggles.
Skill Rotations Over a three-week cycle, gymnasts rotate through floor, vault, bars, beam, and trampette, focusing on two apparatus per week. This keeps things fresh, exciting, and challenging.
Small Group Training Classes are split into small groups, ensuring every child gets the attention they need. Whether they’re mastering a forward roll or tackling the beam for the first time, our British Gymnastics qualified coaches are there to guide and encourage them every step of the way.
Cool Down We finish with a gentle cool-down to help children wind down and reflect on what they’ve achieved.
Why Choose Gymnastics?
Gymnastics isn’t just about flips and cartwheels (although those are undeniably fun). It’s about building confidence, developing coordination, and fostering a sense of achievement.
Here’s why our school-age classes are a fantastic choice for your child:
Improves Strength and Flexibility: Gymnastics works every muscle group, helping kids build strength and flexibility in a fun, engaging way.
Encourages Teamwork: While gymnastics is an individual sport, our small group setups foster camaraderie and teamwork.
Teaches Goal-Setting: From nailing a new skill to progressing through apparatus, gymnastics helps kids set and achieve goals.
Boosts Confidence: There’s nothing quite like the glow on a child’s face when they master a new skill.

FAQs
Q: Does my child need experience?
Nope! Our classes cater to all abilities, from complete beginners to budding gymnasts with prior experience.
Q: What should my child wear?
Comfortable, stretchy clothes are perfect. Leotards are great but not essential—leggings and a t-shirt work just as well. Bare feet are best for safety and grip.
Q: Can parents watch?
We understand you’re keen to see your child in action, so we welcome parents to observe from designated areas.
