Introducing Preschoolers to Movement: A Parent’s Guide to Gloworms and Stay and Play

Preschooler exploring gymnastics equipment at Wickers Gymnastics Club

Parenting a preschooler can sometimes feel like running a marathon while juggling. And when they’re not running circles around you, they’re probably perfecting their skills as a human climbing frame. Enter Wickers Gymnastics Club’s preschool programmes – Gloworms and Stay and Play – designed to channel that boundless energy into something a little more productive (and less likely to involve your furniture).

Here’s everything you need to know about introducing your little ones to the wonderful world of movement.

The Benefits of Early Movement

If you’ve ever tried to sit still for a whole day (spoiler: it’s grim), you’ll know how much kids need to move. Physical activity is crucial for developing coordination, balance, and strength – all of which come in handy when tackling life’s greatest challenges, like getting dressed without falling over.

But it’s not just about physical gains. Early movement sessions also:

  • Boost confidence as children master new skills.

  • Improve social interaction through shared activities.

  • Provide a brilliant energy outlet (so you might just enjoy a peaceful cuppa later).

  • Lay the groundwork for a lifelong love of fitness.

Gloworms: Structured Fun for Tiny Movers

Gloworms sessions are ideal for your confident walker up to the age of four. With a delightful mix of musical warm-ups, free play, and apparatus exploration, this 45-minute session is led by our friendly staff, who are well-versed in the art of keeping toddlers entertained and safe.

The cherry on top? Each session ends with a song, a hand stamp, and a special star chart reward system. Because who doesn’t love a certificate to show off at the fridge door?

Gloworms runs on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, so you can schedule around other vital commitments (like finding time to breathe).

Stay and Play: Free-Flowing Exploration

Stay and Play sessions are the ultimate toddler adventure. Think soft play meets gymnastics, with trampettes, foam pits, and plenty of apparatus to climb, crawl, and bounce on. These 2.5-hour sessions allow children to explore at their own pace while you supervise (and maybe sneak a chat with other parents).

There’s even a dedicated snack area because little movers burn calories faster than you can say “preschool gymnastics.” Remember, Wickers is a nut-free zone, so plan your snacks accordingly. And don’t forget to grab your coffee fix from the nearby café on your way in.

Stay and Play is available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with flexible entry and exit times to suit your schedule.

Top Tips for Making the Most of These Sessions

  1. Dress for Success: Ensure your child wears comfy clothes they can move freely in (leggings/shorts and t-shirts are a win).

  2. Arrive Early: This gives your little one time to acclimatise to the space before diving in.

  3. Join In: Especially in Gloworms, your participation can encourage your child and make it more enjoyable for both of you.

  4. Pack Smart: Bring water bottles and a healthy, nut-free snack for Stay and Play. You’ll also want to stash an extra set of clothes for spills or over-enthusiastic foam-pit dives.

  5. Embrace the Chaos: Kids move at their own pace. Relax and enjoy watching them explore, even if they’re more interested in the trampette than the balance beam.

Why Choose Wickers for Your Preschooler?

Unlike your average soft play venue, Wickers Gymnastics Club offers a purpose-built facility, qualified staff, and a structured yet fun approach to early movement. Plus, we’re the only pitted gymnastics facility in the Adur and Worthing district, which is a fancy way of saying we’ve got equipment that’s both safe and exciting for little ones.

Whether it’s the friendly vibe, the rewarding activities, or the sheer joy of watching your child discover new skills, Gloworms and Stay and Play are a fantastic way to introduce movement to your preschooler.

So, what are you waiting for? Book a session now and prepare to be amazed by how much fun your little gymnast will have. And who knows – you might just enjoy yourself too.
